The Indexes
The E Index measures efficiency. The value of the E Index indicates an expected dollar amount difference per head for feed conversion of a bull’s progeny versus average cattle when fed in a similar feedyard under similar ration and management practices.
The G Index measures value premiums for carcasses marketed on a grid. The value of the G Index indicates an expected dollar amount difference per head for grid premiums of a bull’s progeny versus average cattle when sold through a packing plant.
Each bull that receives these index values proves his through rigorous and comprehensive evaluation. His analysis includes performance on feed intake system and datasets that track parentage, sire and progeny efficiency, herd competition, and individual performance. This verification process is analyzed by a third-party and compared amongst multi-breed contemporary groups.

Greensteak functions as an independent, multi-breed collaborative network that has developed a set of selection indexes backed with phenotypic production data.
Greensteak assigns RPD (Real Progeny Data) percentile rankings to individual cattle using genetic and performance data with focuses on carcass, growth, feed conversion and targeted maternal traits. Members and partners across the beef industry, including seedstock herds, commercial feedyards and packing plants, collaborate to create and collect data on multi-breed contemporary groups using Angus, American, and Continental sires. The proven cattle are then marketed through developed supply chains with buyers seeking efficient animals that provide high quality beef.
